These are not the best things that have happened, just geek-cool things I would not have imagined plausible beforehand:
The Lord of the Rings movies being so well made and true to the books. And directed by Peter Jackson! In New Zealand! The run of good superhero movies (when you think back to what it was like ten+ years ago) The third Harry Potter movie being directed by Alfonso Cuarón and the fact they're actually adapting all seven books. V for Vendetta being made by the Wachowskis and actually being half decent social commentary (given the previous Alan Moore adaptations) They made a film of The Golden Compass (yes, it was a crap film. But it's a children's book which literally says Satan is awesome and God is evil) Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides
Not necessarily the best fiction ever, but the way the premises are designed specifically for me is clearly the result of my future one-with-the-Time-Stream self altering reality: Revolutionary Girl Utena, Babylon 5, The Atrocity Archives, Scout's choice
HMM. I have had a remarkably tiring day so will stop there. I know there have been others.
